Assignment Unit 5 - TV & Short film production
Task 3 - P3 / M2 / D2
P3

This is a screenshot of the editing process of the making of the short film. It shows the software used for our short film 'Final Cut Pro'. It demonstrates have to footage was placed in order to create the narrative of our short film. We needed to apply colour correction to make sure the images maintained the slightly dark tone we wanted to help show the environment was unsafe.
We also used audio effects by layering different voiceovers and sound effects to create the haunting whispering sounds which make out film a mystery.

These are the rushes used for the production, demonstrating the usable and unusable footage for the film.

M2
Final film 'Voices' - with appropriate and planned titles and graphics with transitions and special effects.

In the short film 'Voices', a variety of transitions have been added during the post production process: including fade to black, dissolve, bloom and other graphic effects. The use of these transitions is to emphasise and make the film more appealing to the audience, as well as to apply conventions of short films. The screen grabs shows the application of video effects and titles graphics to our product.
The purple coloured rectangle in the top line demonstrates the titles graphics, that has been used to emphasise the name of our short film 'Voices.'

The green bar show the adding of music to the short film. Where as the purple bar shows the graphic effects.
In this screen shot we had to use colour correction as to have the colours symbolise the sad mood of the film. It is also to have the shots similar to the other shots to generate a flow of continuity within the film. This was achieved by selecting 'Colour Match' effect in Final Cut as well as altering the colours a little bit manually. It was crucial to keep the same colour tone throughout the film as this will have a great effect to the audience and the overall meaning and composition of the film.

Other effects and title graphics that has been used is the use of credits at the end of the short film. The purple box at the end of the project timeline indicates the rolling credits of the cast, crew and members of this short film production. This is a fundamental convention of any short film, therefore having a rolling credit section within our short film was necessary.

These screen shots shows the credits that have been manipulated within our short film, stating the name of the film, crew, cast, music, etc..
This was done through the application of title graphics by selecting the sidebar with the icon with of a T on it. Then from there we chose the size, font, pace of the words as to choose how we wanted the credits to appear. This was great as it shows there is use of titles cards within our film.
This is another screenshot where the application of transitions, effects, musics and credits have been used for the film. The grey bars within each of the shots represent the transitions effects used. This was done by choosing in the transitions effects section of Final Cut, by choosing which ones to adapt for better flow and movement.
D2
In our short film we used a variety of different soundtracks and music to fit within the film. This was done to achieve a smooth and well structured storyline and adequate editing techniques like the application of transitions, effects, soundtrack and music to the short film.

The green bar beneath shows the soundtrack is classified as music, comparing to the other blue boxes which are not music but the additional voices and whispers in the film. This shows how we divided and managed to distinguish different types of sounds like voices and music. This was useful when editing sound as it indicates us which one is which and helps while editing and assembling the different types of sounds to create a flow with the sound elements within our film.
Furthermore, in each of these boxes blue or green, it can be seen how the volumes has been lowered or increased to certain points to add specific meaning and effects to the film. For example the blue boxes which are the voices and whispers recorded for the film, have been appropriately assembled to certain areas where more volume or less noise is needed. This has an effects to the film as it again adds to the overall meaning of the film.
Also in some sections the audio of dialogue had to be increased as the music soundtrack was too loud and distorted, therefore to smooth out the sound the audio had to be controlled and properly levelled.

In this screenshot the control of audio tracks depicts how the sound of a certain segment of the film has been manipulated, so has been lowered to -37.0 dB to add the effects of volume quantity and the level of the sound being not contorted. Also the fade ins and fade outs demonstrated by the arcs and curvy line on the boxes, implies how different voices and sounds have been operated to enhance the short film and make a settle and smooth fades in and outs. This makes the sounds within the film flows well with the other soundtrack and the inclusive narrative and meaning of this audio visual product.
